Understanding IP Multicast in a Broadcast Environment

Webinars by SBE continues to offer IP networking training in the next webinar titled “IP Networking, part 6 – an Introduction to IP Multicast“.  Taking place April 25, 2013, the webinar explores Multicast terminology, the addressing utilized, switching and routing in a multicast IP network and more.  Wayne Pecena, CPBE, CBNE, who is presenting the webinar, will provide practical implementation examples to deliver AoIP and IPTV content in order to illustrate the theoretical concepts presented.

Broadcasters: Leaders who are well aware of their leadership style are more likely to succeed at their job than their peers.

The SBE Leadership Development Course, originally presented by the NAB, has been helping broadasters for four decades. The course, incorporating introductory and advanced topics within leadership, challenges attendees to recognize their weaknesses and identify ways of building teams and relationships. Topics of the course address specific challenges often encountered by broadcasters, including working within a team, communicating with upper management, resolving conflict and more.

Instructing the course for the fourth year is Rodney Vandeveer, a professor of organization leadership and supervision at Purdue University. One attendee of the course said of Rodney, “I have never had an instructor grab and hold the interest of a group like Rodney.”

Subjects of this popular course include the fundamentals of leadership, a team building workshop, a leadership style assessment, motivation, insights into generational differences and more.

The course is limited to 30 attendees and promises to be highly engaging and interactive.  Participants of the course appreciate how the material and subjects address issues specific to those in broadcasting.

The course takes place August 13-15, 2013 in Atlanta.  Visit our website for more information and to register.

If you can’t find the content, you really don’t have it

It is often repeated that “if you can’t find the content, you really don’t have it.” What were once boxes of tape neatly labeled on a shelf is now most often files with cryptic names in some invisible place in cyber space. Digital asset management systems organize and make this content searchable. We all know how important metadata tagging is, but we broadcasters often see ourselves as living in a largely “turn and burn” world where an asset can have a short shelf life. Asset management systems can be expensive and complicated, suited for curation tasks like managing sports or news footage. Still, some larger facilities are now very dependent on asset management, and as time goes on there appears to be right sized solutions being developed for broadcasters. More importantly, the topic of asset management more and more frequently comes up in broadcast facilities; often in the context of moving a station’s content to the cloud, and as stations reach easily into very large remote storage locations. Asset management has a language of its own, and basic workflow principles that broadcast engineers should have a conversational knowledge of.

On May 16, Theresa Regli will present a webinar on Media Asset Management. This Webinar by SBE will focus on the ins and outs of the software systems that manage broadcast media assets and provide an excellent understanding of Media Asset Management “MAM” components and functions. Practical application requirements will be reviewed to understand who are the industry players, how the various MAM system services work, and understanding the implementation architecture approach. Theresa is a twenty-year veteran of the content technology industry, and offers a unique industry perspective to SBE members needing to learn about Media Asset Management. Visit our website for more information on this webinar.

How can IP Multicasting benefit broadcasters?

IP Multicast is a unique aspect of IP Networking technology that provides “one – to – many” communications between a source IP host and numerous subscriber IP hosts. The use of IP Multicast for delivery of real-time media content often finds widespread use in the broadcast facility. The SBE is offering a webinar, presented by Wayne Pecena, to help broadcasters learn more about IP Multicast. Learn more

Interested in learning how to build an IP network infrastructure for your TV or Radio station? This webinar will help –

The IP Networking webinar series continues with part 5 focusing on “Building the KSBE Network”, by applying the concepts addressed in the first 4 parts of the IP Networking Webinar series. The end result of this webinar will be an understanding of how to build an IP network infrastructure often found in a broadcast environment. The “KSBE Network” will address layered IP network design, application of an IP addressing plan, use of VLAN’s, routing protocols, securing the network, and access to the network through a secure VPN connection. Thanks to Wayne Pecena for presenting this series! More Info
